UMSL Men's Golf

The University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s golf team has vaulted to a No. 9 national ranking in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches’ Poll. The UMSL Tritons were No. 18 in the last poll.

Barry University kept hold of the top spot, while Nova Southeastern remained in the No. 2 spot with USC-Aiken, Lynn and Florida Southern rounding out the top five.

UMSL was one of three teams to jump into the top 10, along with No. 7 North Alabama and No. 8 Central Missouri.

The Tritons are coming off a fourth place finish at the Brickyard Invitational (Sept. 16-17), which featured nine top-25 teams. Barry won the 17-team event, while Central Missouri and Nova Southeastern finished second and third, respectively.

Through two tournaments, sophomore Colby Yates is averaging a team-best 71.80 scoring average, while senior Joe Atkisson follows with a 72.80 average. Yates earned a runner-up finish individually at the Brickyard Invitational, while Atkisson was the runner-up at the Arch Cup, which was won by UMSL.

The Tritons returned to the links Sept. 29-30 at the DII Midwest Fall Regional, hosted by Northern Michigan at Harborside International in Chicago, Ill.
