UMSL junior Zach Sedlacek

University of Missouri–St. Louis junior pitcher Zach Sedlacek has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week. Quincy’s Kenny May was named Player of the Week.

Sedlacek, an education major, tossed his third complete game victory of the season in a 3-1 win at Drury last Saturday, which helped snap the Panthers’ nine-game winning streak. After Drury combined for 27 hits in Friday night’s doubleheader sweep of the UMSL Tritons, Sedlacek quieted the Panther bats, holding them to just two hits and one earned run. The Glen Carbon, Ill., native retired the first nine batters he faced and the final 12 that stepped into the box as well. His seven-inning, five-strikeout effort held the Panthers to a team batting average of just .087.

This is the first weekly honor of Sedlacek’s career and the first for an UMSL hurler since Alan Frank was recognized on April 8, 2014.

The Tritons are 23-19 overall, including 19-13 in the GLVC. UMSL closes out the regular season this week with a non-conference game at Illinois Springfield tomorrow, before a four-game home series with Missouri S&T on Saturday and Sunday.
