The University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s golf team has been selected to the 2014 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional. The UMSL Tritons, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest, will host this year’s event at Fox Run Golf Club in Eurkea, Mo., May 5-7.

It is the ninth NCAA regional appearance for the program and the third in the last four years under sixth-year head coach Troy Halterman.

Last season, the Tritons placed third in the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional, earning a berth to the NCAA Championships, where they tied for fifth place, the program’s best finish.

There will be four regional sites across the country, with two regions at each site, consisting of both team and individual competition being conducted concurrently with 20 teams and eight individual players from non-qualifying teams. The top four teams along with the top two players not with a team (regardless of region) advance to the NCAA Championships May 19-23 at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich., with Grand Valley State serving as host.

Other teams joining UMSL in the Midwest Region are Malone, Grand Valley State, Wayne State (Mich.), Indianapolis, Ferris State, Lewis, Saginaw Valley State, Ashland and Tiffin.

Teams from the Central Region include Central Missouri, Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, Nebraska Kearney, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Lindenwood, Southwestern Oklahoma State and St. Cloud State.

Midwest Region individuals include Marcus Hunt (Findlay), Jake Wisniewski (Wisconsin-Parkside), Nathan Nottrott (McKendree) and Nick Lees (Maryville), while Central Region individuals include Trey Herman (Fort Hays State), Ross Miller (Minnesota State), Kowan O’Keefe (Minot State) and Ryan Burek (Missouri Southern).

As a team, the Tritons own a scoring average of 297.37 this season and are coming off a runner-up finish to Indianapolis in the GLVC Championships earlier this week. UMSL has two team titles on the season (Arch Cup and Frito Lay/Taco Bell Intercollegiate) and has nine top-five finishes.

Individually, sophomore Colby Yates owns a single season program-best 73.84 scoring average with six top-10 finishes. Senior Joe Atkisson follows at 74.84.
