UMSL Men's Golf team

The University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s golf team begins the 2014-15 season ranked No. 23 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Preseason Division II College Coaches’ Poll.

Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Troy Halterman, the UMSL Tritons begin their quest for another NCAA Regional appearance this Tuesday (Sept. 2) when UMSL hosts the Arch Cup at Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville, Ill. The Tritons welcome Maryville, McKendree and Illinois Springfield to the annual event.

UMSL, ranked all of last season in the Golf WorldNike Golf Poll, is coming off its third NCAA Midwest Regional appearance in the last four years. The Tritons posted 10 top-five finishes during the year, including a runner-up showing at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. UMSL returns three of its top golfers, including junior Colby Yates, the reigning GLVC Player of the Year.

Yates, who also earned All-Region honors a year ago, led the team with a 74.31 scoring average and recorded six top-10 finishes. He enters the season second all-time in career scoring average (75.62).

Also returning is junior Anthony Cope and sophomore Julien de Poyen. Cope earned All-GLVC accolades last season after tying for fourth place at the GLVC Championships. He posted a team third-best scoring average of 75.73 and recorded six top-20 finishes. de Poyen posted a scoring average of 76.00 in his inaugural season.

UMSL will play in six tournaments this fall, which includes trips to Alabama and Puerto Rico. They will also host the Midwest Regional on Oct. 13-14 at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

The Tritons will compete in an additional six events during the spring season, which includes trips to South Carolina, Alabama, Las Vegas and Florida.
