University of Missouri–St. Louis senior catcher Madison Zbaraschuk (14) and senior pitcher Brittni Chapman have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of softball.

Zbaraschuk, a communication major, batted .600 (9-for-15) last week in five victories, while posting an on-base percentage of .667 and a slugging percentage of .993. Her nine hits were spread out almost evenly throughout the five games, having recorded two-hit performances in every game but the finale when she went 1-for-3 against Saginaw Valley State.

She opened the weekend with two doubles in four at-bats in a 10-0 win against Kentucky Wesleyan and then followed with a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored in a 10-2 victory over Upper Iowa. The fifth-ranked Tritons then unloaded on No. 15 Wayne State, scoring an 11-1 outing thanks in large part to a 2-for-3 day by Zbaraschuk. She tallied two of UMSL’s three hits in 1-0 win over Grand Valley State, including a one-out single that helped set up the game-winning run, and then closed out the week in the 10-2 victory over SVSU. On the week, five of her nine hits were doubles.

The Sequim, Washington, native earns the second weekly award of her career as she was first honored on March 18, 2013.

Chapman, an interdisciplinary studies major, went 2-0 in the circle over the course of three appearances last week, posting an earned run average of 0.57. She allowed just two runs, including one earned, while only walking two batters in 12.1 innings pitched. Her complete game in the Tritons’ 1-0 win over Grand Valley State gave GVSU its first loss of the season.

A native of O’Fallon, Illinois, this is Chapman’s first career weekly award.
