Since joining the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Education in the fall of 2011, Dean Carole Basile has made an impact.

Basile and her transformation of the college were highlighted in the March 13 issue of the St. Louis Business Journal.

Carole is a visionary,” Maxine Clark, founder of Build-A-Bear Workshop, told the publication. “She didn’t come to UMSL to just perpetuate what was there; she came to make it into a leading education institution.”

Among her many contributions to the college, the article highlights the creation of the ED Collabitat, which will open this fall in the former Ward E. Barnes Library. The ED Collabitat will encourage and foster innovative collaboration among educators.

Basile has also reformed the traditional student teacher model and established the studio schools model in which cohorts of student-teachers work simultaneously in a school, rotating through classrooms, while learning from a number of teachers.
