UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The fall season got underway with the volleyball team going 3-1 in the Washburn Invitational and women's soccer going 1-0-1 in North Carolina.
Weekly rewind

Sophomore Kylie Rudsinski notched 29 kills last Friday as the UMSL volleyball team opened its season with a pair of victories over East Central and Pittsburg State on the first day of the Washburn Invitational.

Volleyball
UMSL went 3-1 at the Washburn Invitational to open its 2017 season. The Tritons’ lone loss came against the 16th-ranked hosts, 3-2, but they swept East Central, defeated Pittsburg State 3-1 and earned a 3-2 victory over Emporia State. Sophomore Kylie Rudsinski averaged 2.76 kills per set, while junior Alex Miner averaged 2.35 kills and 1.29 blocks per set. Coach Ryan Young notched his 100th career victory. UMSL travels to Florida this weekend for four matches.

Women’s Soccer
The Tritons opened their season in North Carolina and went 1-0-1 on the weekend. UMSL earned a 2-1 win over Barton College on Friday with sophomore Rose Crabtree scoring the eventual game-winner. It played Anderson (S.C.) to a draw through double overtime on Sunday. The Tritons will play host to Southern Indiana on Friday in what will be both their home and Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. They will travel across the rive to meet McKendree on Sunday.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL opened its season in Michigan, falling to Davenport 5-1 on Thursday before salvaging a 2-2 tie on Saturday against Northern Michigan. Senior Pat Ries scored twice in that game with his second tally coming in the final minute. The Tritons will host Southern Indiana on Friday in their home and GLVC openers before visiting McKendree on Sunday.

Women’s Tennis
The Tritons swept all singles and doubles flights at the Webster Invitational last weekend in the their first competition of the 2017-18 season. Singles champions included junior Salome Bleuler (A), junior Jennifer Hauer (B), senior Patricia Maya (C) and sophomore Janet Auclair (D). In doubles, Hauer and sophomore Marina Prediger won at A while Auclair and freshman Leticia Lunge won at B. UMSL returns to action at 2 p.m. Thursday when it plays host to Missouri Baptist.
