UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

Ares Boira led the UMSL women’s golf team with a career-low round of 70 Sunday in the opening round of the Findlay Beall Fall Classic and went on to be one of three Tritons to finish in the top six individually in the 36-hole tournament.

Volleyball
The Tritons began the week with a Tuesday night sweep at William Jewell and finished it with a 3-1 loss Friday night at Illinois Springfield. Senior Danielle Waedekin averaged 8.86 digs per set, recording a season-best 38 in the four-set loss, while sophomore Selena Nolte averaged 3.00 kills per set. UMSL (11-6, 4-5 GLVC) will compete in the Midwest Regional Crossover this weekend in Aurora, Illinois. The Tritons face Davis & Elkins on Friday and Purdue Northwest and Ashland on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL cruised to a 4-0 win over William Jewell on Friday night before suffering a 2-0 loss to fifth-ranked Rockhurst on Sunday. Four different players scored in the win, including senior Pat Ries, who also tallied an assist. Ries leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals (8) and points (19). The Tritons (5-5-2, 5-4-1 GLVC) will play their final road games of the regular season this weekend, traveling to Drury on Friday and to Missouri S&T on Sunday.

Women’s Soccer
The Tritons earned a 1-0 win over Rockhurst on Sunday after drawing a 1-1 tie against William Jewell on Friday night. Sophomore Jordyn White converted the team’s first penalty kick attempt of the season in the Friday night draw, and freshman Erynn Little scored in Sunday’s win. Freshman Amber Hayes made a combined 15 saves in goal, including a career-high 11 in the tie. The Tritons (3-6-3, 2-6-2 GLVC) will take their final road trip of the regular season this weekend, traveling to Drury on Friday and to Missouri S&T on Sunday.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL concluded its fall season last weekend by winning three of four flights at its own fall tournament. Junior Salome Bleuler and senior Patricia Maya won the A Doubles, while sophomore Janet Auclair and senior Annie Hays won the B Doubles. The singles championships were cut short due to rain, but in the A flight, Bleuler was declared the winner, leading Hays 6-0, 2-1 before the match was called.

Women’s Golf
Senior Ares Boira turned in a career-best 70 on Sunday to set the tone UMSL in the Findlay Beall Fall Classic, and the Tritons went on to place second in the 14-team with three of the top six individuals scores at the tournament in Findlay, Ohio. Boira and teammate Emma Thorngren tied for fifth with with 36-hole totals of 148 while teammate Stefaniya Ivanova finished one shot better in fourth place. UMSL next plays in the Central Region Preview Oct. 16-17 at Missouri Bluffs Golf Club in St. Charles, Missouri.
