UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

Junior catcher Serena Olson (14) delivered a walk-off, two-run home run Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader against McKendree to cap the Tritons softball team’s 6-2 week.

Softball
UMSL went 6-2 last week, finishing its Florida trip by going 3-1 at the start of the week, then returning to St. Louis and going 3-1 at the start of its home schedule. The Tritons swept Saginaw Valley State on Friday in their home opener before splitting with McKendree on Saturday in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. Junior Reagan Osborn tallied 12 hits, including five doubles, and also scored 10 runs in eight games. Sophomore Andee Tiffee went 2-0 in the circle and also recorded two saves while recording 23 strikeouts. UMSL (14-10, 1-1 GLVC) will host Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday and Indianapolis on Sunday in a pair of GLVC doubleheaders.

Baseball
The Tritons played eight games in Florida last week and posted wins over Cedarville 13-10 and 22nd-ranked Seton Hill 4-3. Senior Jake Morsch led UMSL with nine hits while sophomore Jarrett O’Brien added nine hits, five RBI and scored seven runs. The Tritons (5-8) will play host to Bemijdi State in a doubleheader on Thursday in its home opener before welcoming Bellarmine for single games on Friday and Sunday.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL went 2-0 last weekend, defeating Illinois Springfield 8-1 before knocking off 18th-ranked Southwest Baptist 5-4. Sophomore Janet Auclair went 4-0 combined in her singles and doubles matches. The Tritons (4-2) will play three matches this week in Hilton Head, S.C.

Men’s Tennis
The Tritons edged out Illinois Springfield 5-4 last Friday but lost a 9-0 decision to No. 13 Southwest Baptist on Saturday. Sophomore Ben-Hur Kasprzak won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to lead UMSL against UIS. The Tritons (3-1) will play three matches this week in Hilton Head, S.C.

Men’s Golf
UMSL recorded an 11thplace finish at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, an event it hosted March 4-6 at the Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas. The Tritons turned in a three-day, 54-hole score of 911 (308-303-300). Sophomore Chris Ferris was the top UMSL finisher, tying for 24th place with a 225 (78-73-74). UMSL returns to the course March 26-27 at the University of North Alabama Division II Preview tournament in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
