UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The women's tennis team ended its historic season in the NCAA national quarterfinals, while both the men's and women's golf teams advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Emma Thorngren shot a school-record 221 (74-74-73) over 54 holes to place third overall at the NCAA East Super Regional, held May 7-9 at Katke Golf Club in Michigan. She led the Tritons women’s golf team as it advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships for the second straight year.

Softball
UMSL advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional #2 final but lost two games to host Illinois Springfield to see its season end. The Tritons opened with a 4-0 shutout of McKendree behind junior Carly Kingery’s no-hitter and a three-run homer from junior Reagan Osborn. The Tritons then outlasted UIS in 13 innings as junior Serena Olson’s double drove in both runs in a 2-0 victory. UMSL ends its season with a 35-24 record.

Women’s Tennis
No. 23 UMSL advanced to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships, defeating Queens (NY) 5-0 in its first-ever national appearance. The Tritons then lost a 5-0 decision to No. 2-ranked Hawaii Pacific. UMSL ends its historic season with a 17-6 record.

Women’s Golf
For the second straight year, UMSL has earned a bid to the NCAA DII Championships. The Tritons punched their ticket with a third-place finish at the NCAA East Super Regional, held May 7-9 at Katke Golf Club in Big Rapids, Michigan. UMSL turned in a 54-hole score of 913 (305-308-300), with sophomore Emma Thorngren shooting a 54-hole school-record 221 (74-74-73) to tie for third place individually. The DII Championships will be held May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas, and will consist of 72 holes of play. In its first national appearance a year ago, UMSL finished eighth.

Men’s Golf
The Tritons men’s golf team is also headed to the NCAA DII Championships after turning in a third-place finish at Midwest/Central Regional and finishing with a 54-hole score of 872 (290-290-292). It will be the 10th national appearance for the program and the fourth in the past 10 years. Freshman Miguel Maisterra tied for sixth place to lead the Tritons, turning in a 215 (71-73-71). The DII Championships will be held May 21-25 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and will feature 20 teams and eight individuals who will compete in 54 holes of stroke play. The top eight teams will then qualify for match play.
