Junior Jason Towery logged the first double-double of his UMSL career, scoring 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds Friday in the Tritons’ 81-77, overtime victory over Hannibal-LaGrange.

Men’s Basketball
UMSL picked up a 90-47 victory over Lindenwood-Belleville and an 81-77, overtime win over Hannibal-LaGrange last week. Senior Johnathan Matthews averaged 18 points over the two victories, while sophomore Shane Wissink had 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in the win over Lindenwood-Belleville, and junior Jason Towery picked up his first double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Hannibal-LaGrange. The Tritons (9-2, 1-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) next play Saturday, Dec. 29, when they close out the nonconference portion of the schedule by hosting Principia at 1 p.m.

Women’s Basketball
UMSL defeated Christian Brothers 75-57 last Friday. Four players scored in double figures, including sophomore Alex LaPorta, who tallied a game-high 19 points to go with 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman Kiara Stewart added a season-high 15 points and was also the top scorer with 16 points on Sunday as the Tritons lost a 92-63 decision to NCAA Division I opponent University of Missouri–Kansas City in an exhibition contest. UMSL (5-4, 1-1 GLVC) plays again next Wednesday, Dec. 19, when it plays host to Oakland City at 1 p.m.
