Campus photographer August Jennewein couldn't pass up a selfie with Benny Golson last week after the jazz great spoke to students at the Touhill Performing Arts Center.

Eye on UMSL: Shoulder to shoulder with a legend

It’s a rare occasion where University of Missouri–St. Louis campus photographer August Jennewein makes a selfie. This moment he shared with jazz legend Benny Golson was just such a time. Jennewein has been a great admirer of Golson’s music for decades, and he had been riveted watching as Golson shared an hour with UMSL jazz students in the Lee Theatre in the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. He listened to them play and told them stories and lessons from his rich life history. The most important takeaway Jennewein took from Golson: “Never stop learning.” (Photo by August Jennewein)

This photograph was taken by Jennewein and is the latest to be featured in Eye on UMSL.
