Volleyball
No. 23 UMSL closed out the regular season with victories last weekend at Missouri S&T (3-2) and Maryville (3-0) and will take a 27-3 record into this weekend’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The Tritons faced match point trailing 24-21 in the fourth set against the Miners on Friday before reeling off five consecutive points to level the match before winning 15-11 in the final set. They had an easier time topping the Saints on Saturday. UMSL’s 27 victories are the program’s most since 1993. Senior Selena Nolte averaged 3.25 kills per set and became the Tritons’ all-time leader in that category, bettering the previous career record of 1,402 set between 1987-90. UMSL (27-3, 12-3 GLVC) will be the No. 3 seed in the GLVC Tournament and begin play on Friday morning against No. 6 seed Bellarmine in the first of four quarterfinals. The semifinals will be held on Saturday and the championship on Sunday.

Junior Yaakem Rose Jr. scored a game-high 20 points while junior Jose Grubbs finished with 15 points and six rebounds. The Tritons (2-1) play host to Illinois College on Tuesday night and Central Christian College of the Bible on Friday night.
