UMSL Tritons weekly rewind

The 18th-ranked men's basketball team bounced back from a loss at top-ranked Bellarmine with wins against No. 23 Indianapolis at home and Lindenwood on the road.

Junior guard Shane Wissink dropped in 16 points Monday as the 18th-ranked Tritons routed Lindenwood 103-80 on the road while shooting a season-best 65 percent from the field.

Men’s Basketball
No. 18 UMSL had its 13-game win streak snapped last Thursday in a 65-60 loss at No. 1 Bellarmine, but the Tritons bounced back by beginning a new streak, first securing a 69-66 win over No. 23 Indianapolis at home on Saturday and then shooting a season-best 65 percent while routing Lindenwood 103-80 on the road on Monday. Senior Jalen Wilkins-McCoy averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. He scored a game-high 20 points in the win against UIndy. UMSL (15-2, 6-1) continues its three-game road swing with games at Illinois Springfield and Lewis on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Women’s Basketball
The Tritons got back in the win column on Saturday with an 81-71 victory over visiting Indianapolis before falling 92-86 in overtime Monday at Lindenwood. Junior Alex LaPorta nearly produced a triple-double in the victory against Indianapolis, finishing with 19 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. On the week, which included a Thursday loss at Bellarmine, LaPorta averaged 12.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals. UMSL (7-9, 2-5 GLVC) remains on the road, traveling to Illinois Springfield and Lewis on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
