Senior Joel Sylven helped the UMSL men’s golf team repeat as Arch Cup champions, finishing 8 under par to take medalist honors at Stonewolf Golf Club.

Men’s Golf
UMSL repeated as Arch Cup champions, finishing 19 shots ahead of its closest competitors in a 13-team field to take first place in the one-day, 36-hole tournament at Stonewolf Golf Course. Joel Sylven took medalist honors after finishing 8 under par after rounds of 69 and 67. He made a total of 11 birdies – seven in the second round – and was five shots clear of his closest challenger. The Tritons will play in their first two-day tournament of the fall season on September 20-21. UMSL will travel to the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio, for the Doc Spragg Invitational.

Women’s Soccer
The Tritons bounced back from a home loss against Washburn Thursday night by upsetting No. 12 Indianapolis 2-1 Sunday on the road to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play. UMSL (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) got second-half goals from Emma Sifton and Jaycee Cotton to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit. Cotton’s second goal of the season came in the 62nd minute of the match. Goalkeeper Brynne Qualley made eight saves. The Tritons will travel to Illinois Springfield Friday before visiting Lewis on the road on Sunday.

Men’s Soccer
UMSL picked up its first victory of the season in come-from-behind fashion on Friday against Newman, winning 3-2, before getting shut out 2-0 against No. 2 Indianapolis in Sunday’s GLVC opener. Garrett Bass, Gabe Stanislawski and Cole Pardo all scored after intermission against Newman as the Tritons (1-2, 0-1) climbed out of a 2-0 hole in Wichita, Kansas. UMSL remains on the road for games against Illinois Springfield on Friday and Lewis on Sunday.

Volleyball
Charlotte Richards because the 10th Tritons volleyball player to record 1,000 career kills over the weekend while leading UMSL to a 3-1 record in the Southern Indiana Tournament. The Tritons (5-3) posted 3-1 victories over Wayne State and Alabama Huntsville and a 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins, but it lost its second match of the tournament 3-1 against host Southern Indiana on Friday. Richards finished with 70 kills combined in the four matches. The Tritons open GLVC play on the road this week with matches at Illinois Springfield on Thursday and at Quincy on Saturday.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis
UMSL’s tennis teams started their fall seasons at the UIS Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Springfield, Illinois. The doubles teams of Karl Heinrichs and Marcos Navas as well as Odette Beagrie and Anna Domingo both placed second in A Doubles. The women’s team will compete in the Quincy Women’s Invitational on Friday and Saturday this week. The men’s team is off until the Quincy Men’s Invitational Oct. 8-9.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The Tritons swimmers placed in the top-three in 14 events at the St. Louis Showcase on Saturday. Zara Konstapel won the women’s 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 35.94 seconds. Both the men’s and women’s teams took second in the 200 medley relay. UMSL will have intrasquad competitions on Sept. 25 before traveling to Columbia, Missouri, for the Show-Me Showdown on Oct. 1.
