UMSL Chancellor Kristin Sobolik named to CUMU executive committee

CUMU focuses on strengthening institutions as they develop new responses to the pressing educational, economic and social issues impacting their communities.

University of Missouri–St. Louis Chancellor Kristin Sobolik was recently elected to the 14-member executive committee of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.

The coalition, of which UMSL is a founding member, is the longest-running and largest organization committed to serving and connecting the world’s urban and metropolitan universities and their partners. CUMU focuses on strengthening institutions that are developing new responses to the pressing educational, economic and social issues of the day to improve their surrounding communities.

“I’m honored to be elected and serve on the executive committee of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities,” Sobolik said. “I know how important universities like ours are in shaping the future of their communities through education and outreach aimed at addressing the pressing economic and social issues we face today. UMSL continues to model and build our mission based on CUMU values, and I look forward to working with and learning from each member institution as we strengthen our impact in the St. Louis region.”

Members of the executive committee are presidents and chancellors of CUMU member institutions. They are elected to serve a two-year term in their respective positions.

“CUMU relies on and is the beneficiary of the strong leadership of presidents and chancellors who lead CUMU member institutions, and Chancellor Sobolik is a perfect example,” said Bobbie Laur, CUMU’s executive director. “We are excited to have her working with us to advance the CUMU mission and to strengthen our urban and metropolitan communities.”

Executive committee members are nominated and elected by peers from CUMU member institutions. Each has demonstrated their commitment to the CUMU mission of promoting and enhancing urban and metropolitan universities.
