Women’s Basketball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s basketball team shot a blistering 72.7% from 3-point range and notched a season-high in points as it topped Maryville 80-68 on Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Athletic Center, snapping a two-game losing streak. Sophomore guard Jalysa Stokes sank four of the Tritons’ eight 3-pointers in the game on her way to a career-high 26 points. She led five UMSL players in double figures. Morgan Ramthun added 14, Kiara Stewart had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Amaya Blake and Shania Liburd had 11 points each. Stokes and Ramthun combined for 28 points on Thursday as the Tritons fell to Rockhurst 59-48 on the road. UMSL (4-8, 2-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will visit McKendree on Thursday and Indianapolis on Saturday.
Men’s Basketball
The fourth-ranked Tritons suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday at Rockhurst, snapping a 12-game winning streak in an 88-81 defeat, but they bounced back quickly with an 88-81 home victory on Saturday against Maryville. UMSL shot 52.6% from the field against Rockhurst, even edging the Hawks’ 50% clip, but it could not overcome a 43-22 deficit in free-throw attempts. Rockhurst sank 38 of its attempts, compared to only 12 for the Tritons. Donovan Vickers scored 24 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers, against Maryville, and Bowen Sandquist added 21 points, all on 3-point shots as he connected on 7 of 10 attempts from long range. UMSL (13-1, 5-1 GLVC) also came up with 10 steals against the Saints. The Tritons hit the road this week for games against McKendree on Thursday and Indianapolis on Saturday.
