Students from the University of Missouri–St. Louis deliver donated items to HavenHouse St. Louis, a hospital guest house that provides support to patients and their families traveling more than 25 miles to receive medical care in St. Louis.
As part of the “Communication Campaigns” course taught by Jill Alexander, a teaching professor in the Department of Communication and Media, the students completed a capstone project in which they wrote a PR plan and initiated a donation campaign for HavenHouse, which is moving into a different building this month. As the students began collecting travel-sized toiletries for HavenHouse, several student-athletes from UMSL Athletics caught wind of the campaign and asked if they could participate, too.
On Wed., Dec. 4, the communication students donated over 1,200 toiletry items and $100 of snack items to HavenHouse. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee continued to collect items at UMSL Athletics events through Dec. 7 and will deliver their contribution to HavenHouse shortly.
