University of Missouri–St. Louis biology PhD student Kristen Rosamond delivers her presentation “Seeing the Invisible: The Hidden World of Microbes That Influence Bird Health” as part of the annual Three Minute Thesis Competition, which is designed to celebrate doctoral research while cultivating academic, presentation and research communication skills among students.

The 3MT competition was held on Feb. 26 in The Chamber at UMSL’s Millennium Student Center. For the competition, students had three minutes to present their research using only a single, static PowerPoint slide. The presentation needed to be understandable to a general university audience, and not just to specialists in the student’s area of research.

Rosamond took third place. The winner, Ellie Lyne, will represent UMSL in the Midwestern Association of Graduate School 3MT competition.
