Women’s Golf
University of Missouri–St. Louis sophomore Wilma Zanderau secured a place on the All-American team for the second straight year after finishing in a tie for 10th individually at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship played last week at Orange County National’s Panther Lake Course in Winter Garden, Florida. Zanderau, a native of Mariestad, Sweden, posted a 54-hole score of 214 while competing against a field of 94 other golfers. She opened the tournament last Tuesday with a round of 1-over-par 73 that included four consecutive birdies. She followed that up with five more birdies during a round of 70 on Wednesday and carded a 1-under-par 71 on Thursday, including birdies at 13 and 17, as she finished 2 under for the tournament. Zanderau claimed All-American honors by tying for fourth in last season’s tournament at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri. Zanderau now holds two of the three highest finishes at the national championship in program history. Findlay’s Gabby Woods earned the individual national title, finishing with a score of 9-under par 207, one shot better than Dallas Baptist’s Olivia Mitchell. Indianapolis won the team championship after advancing to match play as the No. 7 seed. The Greyhounds knocked off No. 2 seed West Texas A&M, No. 3 seed Dallas Baptist and No. 8 seed St. Mary’s in consecutive matches to secure the title.
