Men’s Basketball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis men’s basketball team ran its winning streak to six games after road victories at William Jewell and Truman State last week. The Tritons pulled out a 78-77 win over the Cardinals on Thursday night in Liberty, Missouri. Forward Troy Glover II scored the first four points of the second half to lift UMSL to a 51-48 lead, and they never trailed the rest of the way, pulling ahead by as many as seven points on Savon Wykle‘s 3-pointer with 3:55 remaining and hanging on despite going scoreless the rest of the way. Emanuel Prospere II led the Tritons with a career-high 27 points, and Glover had a season-best 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the victory. UMSL also got 12 points from Matt Enright and 10 from Wykle and finished shooting 54.5% from the field despite missing its last four field-goal attempts. The Tritons had a much more comfortable victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday, leading 46-35 at intermission and pulling away in the second half for a 86-62 win. Enright led six UMSL players in double figures with 19 points. Glover had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Quenton Parker scored 14 points off the bench, and the Tritons got 11 from Janeir Harris and 10 each from Prospere and Wykle. UMSL shot 56.6% from the field. The Tritons were ranked eighth in the initial list of Midwest Region contenders for the NCAA Tournament even before last week’s wins. UMSL (16-10, 14-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will wrap up its regular-season schedule with a homecoming game against Drury on Thursday night at the Mark Twain Athletic Center.

Women’s Basketball
The Tritons settled for a split on their final road trip of the regular season, beating William Jewell 73-61 on Thursday but falling to Truman State 67-59 on Saturday. Kate Rolfes and Katie Hamill each had 19 points in the win over the Cardinals, Morgan Ramthun added 13 points, and Mara Rieder had 11 off the bench. UMSL held William Jewell to 39% shooting, including 33.3% in the third quarter as the Tritons outscored their hosts 23-14. UMSL dug a 37-28 hole at halftime on Saturday in Kirksville, Missouri, and couldn’t climb out of it. The Tritons fell behind as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter before mounting a late rally. They twice pulled within a point of the lead, the second time on a layup by Rolfes that made it 59-58 with 2:01 remaining. But UMSL only scored one more point the rest of the way while shooting 0 for 4 from the field, all on 3-pointers. Rolfes finished with 17 points but was the only Tritons player in double figures. Ramthun and Rieder each finished with nine points. UMSL shot just 36.5% from the field. The Tritons (19-7, 13-6 GLVC) will close out their regular-season schedule with a homecoming game against Drury on Thursday night.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

and Will Kaempfe finished first and second in the men’s mile race on Friday as the UMSL track teams competed in the the Illinois College Hilltop Classic in what was their final tune-up for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Leach won with the time of 4 minutes, 20.65 seconds, and Kaempfe crossed the final line just under 2 seconds later in a time of 4:22.59. Luke Stevenson finished sixth in the event in Jacksonville, Illinois. Sean Keys placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.81, and Sebastian Meyer and Julio Cruz Jr. were seventh and 10th, respectively, in the men’s 3,000 meters. Meyer posted a time of 8:53.80. Melissa White was the Tritons’ top finisher on the women’s side, placing third in the triple jump with a personal-best indoor mark of 33 feet, 3 1/4 inches. Rebekah Vail finished 12th in the shot put with a top throw of 34-2 3/4, and she was 26th in the weight throw with a mark of 35-10 1/2. Next week’s GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday at Indianapolis’ Athletics and Recreation Center.

Women’s Golf
The 16th-ranked Tritons opened their spring schedule by finishing 11th out of 15 teams in the Southern Invite held at Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas. UMSL carded a team score of 616 through two rounds last Monday before Tuesday’s final round was canceled due to inclement weather. Wilma Zanderau paced the Tritons with a 36-hole score of 149, which tied for 16th. Emmy Wahl, competing as an individual, was UMSL’s next highest finisher, tying for 30th with a score of 152. Juliette Lecomte posted a total of 153, one shot better than Hillary Currier. Arnie Taguines of the University of Texas at Tyler was the individual medalist with a total of 143, and Dallas Baptist claimed the team title with a total of 586. The Tritons will next compete as the host of the Emerald Coast Classic beginning March 9 at Sandestin-Baytowne Golf Club in Destin, Florida.

Baseball
UMSL swept a doubleheader against McKendree Sunday afternoon, topping the Bearcats 11-6 in 10 innings in the opener and cruising to a 9-2 victory in the second game at the Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville, Illinois. Braedon Stoakes drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning to lift the Tritons into the lead, and Barrett Rose drove in Garrett Strenger with a sacrifice fly. But the big blow in the inning came in the form of a pinch-hit, three-run home run by Mitch Bonczkowski that made it 11-6. Cody Brooks struck out two in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the victory. Zach Haygood pitched eight innings, holding McKendree to four earned runs in the opener. Three UMSL pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts while holding the Bearcats to one earned run in the second game. Luke Saxton led the offense with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored, including a home run, in the victory. Noah Tomaras drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the seventh. Andrew Buescher added a double and two RBI. The Tritons (5-4) will take on Davenport on Monday in a doubleheader and will host Walsh in a four-game series beginning on Friday.
