The host Tritons carried a 12-shot lead into the final round and pulled away from the competition with a combined score of 289 over the final 18 holes, giving it a total of 869 in the 54-hole tournament. That was 29 shots better than runner-up Indianapolis. Wilma Zanderau led UMSL with a total of 214, good for second place individually and also earned her her seventh career Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week Award and her fifth of the 2024-25 academic year. Mayan Covarrubias finished in a tie for third at 215, Emmy Wahl took sixth with a score of 219, Hillary Currier tied for 10th at 226, and Juliette Lecomte tied for 15th with a score of 228. Men’s Golf
The Tritons were tied for seventh after the first day of competition in the GLVC Championship at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar, Missouri. UMSL posted a combined score of 302 in Sunday’s first round and rest 15 shots behind leader Drury with William Jewell one shot off the lead. The second round was postponed until Monday because of inclement weather. Trigg Lindahl paced the Tritons with an even-par 72, including three birdies, and he is tied for 12th individually. Dani Solavera posted a round of 74 and is tied for 21st. Logan Mayo and Benjamin Berger each shot 78, and Leo Baudry carded a 79. Andy Hennen, competing as an individual, also shot 79. Indianapolis’ Cameron Young sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 68 and is a shot ahead of William Jewell’s Bryson Oots and Maryville’s Kai Chun Hsu. The top four teams at the conclusion of stroke play on Monday will advance to Tuesday’s match play competition to decide the title.

Baseball
UMSL’s offense accounted for 53 runs on 53 hits, including 11 home runs, while taking three of four games in its weekend series against Upper Iowa at the UMSL Baseball Field. The weekend’s wet weather forced a change in the schedule so that the series was played with doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday. The Tritons dropped the opener 16-9 despite 13 hits with home runs by Braedon Stoakes and Mitch Bonczkowski. They bounced back to take the second game 7-5, holding off a late charge that saw the Peacocks score the game’s final four runs in the last four innings. Stoakes and Cade Grevengoed homered for UMSL. Garrett Strenger had two hits, including an RBI single that made the score 7-1 in the third. Noah Tomaras hit two home runs and the Tritons also got homers from Stoakes, Grevengoed, Barrett Rose and Dane Stevenson in a 16-5 win to open play on Friday. Tomaras finished with five RBI in the win. Rose hit two more home runs as UMSL routed Upper Iowa 21-2 in the series finale. Zach Haygood limited the Peacocks to two runs on four hits while striking out six in his seven innings. Andrew Buescher hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and is now alone atop the Tritons’ career list with 25 home runs. UMSL (25-20, 14-14 GLVC) will play Lindenwood in its only game of the week at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Missouri, before wrapping up its regular season with a four-game home series against Maryville beginning May 1.

Softball
The Tritons split a doubleheader Friday against Drury at the UMSL Softball Field in a game moved up a day because of forecasted wet weather. UMSL lost the opener 7-1 as the Panthers piled up 11 hits. Megan Russell drove in the Tritons’ lone run with an RBI single in the fourth inning, but that only cut the deficit to 5-1. UMSL bounced back behind the pitching of Ashley Borowitz in the second game. She held Drury to one hit in seven shutout innings while striking out four in a 4-0 victory. Simia Spahiev gave the Tritons the upper hand with an RBI double in the first, driving in reigning NFCA Division II National Player of the Week Hannah Tomlianovich. UMSL added to runs in the third, including an RBI double by Gwyn Miller, and they added one more in the fourth with the help of one of the Panthers’ four errors. A scheduled nonconference game against Northwest Missouri State was canceled on Thursday. The Tritons (17-22, 10-14) will play host to Missouri Western in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season on the road with weekend doubleheaders at William Jewell on Saturday and at Truman State on Sunday.
