Jack Rooney thinks 80 percent of failures in business are because of leaders. Yet 80 percent of the brunt is felt by the people who can’t do anything about it.
Rooney, chief executive officers of U.S. Cellular, created a company that excelled both because of its product and services, and because of its people. In the book, “The Pursuit of Something Better: How an Underdog Company Defied the Odds, Won Customers’ Hearts, and Grew Its Employees Into Better People,” authors Dave Esler and Myra Kruger detail how Rooney turned U.S. Cellular into a company known for great customer service.
Rooney, Esler and Kruger will discuss the company and the book at 3 p.m. April 14 in the auditorium at the J.C. Penney Conference Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, One University Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63121.
The event is part of the Bachmann Book Series at UMSL. John Bachmann, senior partner at Edward Jones, will moderate the discussion. A book signing and reception will follow the discussion from 4 to 5 p.m.
The Bachmann Book Series is coordinated by the UMSL Executive Leadership Consortium, and sponsored by UMSL, Edward Jones and St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU.
