The Ambassadors of Harmony, led by Jim Henry, director of choral studies at UMSL, will perform their popular annual "Sounds of the Season" concert this weekend at the Touhill.
The Ambassadors of Harmony fills the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center each December with the joy and magic of the holidays in a way only achieved by a 160-voice chorus. The choral group will perform it’s annual “Sounds of the Season” concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 9, 2 and 8 p.m. Dec. 10 and 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Anheuser Busch Performance Hall at the Touhill.
The first half of the show will be devoted to the lighter side of holiday music. Then the chorus will turn its attention to classic carols and songs of the season.
Jim Henry, director of choral studies at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, serves as musical and artistic director of The Ambassadors of Harmony. He conducts the University Singers and Vocal Point ensembles and teaches choral methods, choral arranging, choral conducting and counterpoint at UMSL. Henry, a Barbershop Harmony Society Hall of Famer as a member of the Gas House Gang quartet, has led The Ambassadors of Harmony to two gold medals in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s intentional choral contest.
The Ambassadors of Harmony is an all-male 160-voice a cappella chorus based in St. Charles, Mo. Its repertoire includes Broadway classics, barbershop, jazz, pop and a wide selection of holiday favorites. The nonprofit, all-volunteer chorus was originally founded in 1963 and has been under Henry’s direction for about two decades.
