From the Roaring ‘20s to the Great Depression and on to the Great Inflation, the last hundred years have held amazing economic highs and lows.

Lawrence White, a professor of economics at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., will discuss those trends in “Economic Ideas: The Great Policy Experiments and Debates of the Last Hundred Years” at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 in 331 Social Sciences & Business Building on UMSL’s North Campus, 1 University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121).

Prior to joining the faculty at George Mason, White was the F. A. Hayek Professor of Economics History in the Department of Economics at UMSL.

He’s written several books including the forthcoming “The Clash of Economic Ideas: The Great Policy Debates and Experiments of the Last Hundred Years.” His other books include “The Theory of Monetary Institutions,” “Free Banking in Britain” and “Competition and Currency.”

White earned his doctoral degree from the University of California in Los Angeles, and he earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

The lecture is the annual F.A. Hayek Professorship in Economic History Lecture at UMSL. It’s free and open to the public and sponsored by the Department of Economics at UMSL.
