The Joffrey Ballet

Location: Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall, Touhill PAC

Description: The Joffrey Ballet, seen frequently in Dance St. Louis’ “Nutcracker at the Fox,” comes to the Touhill with a stunning program by contemporary masters. Industrial muscle clashes with Romantic ideals in “Pretty BALLET” by James Kudelka. Syn-Aulois: Rembetika to Modern
Date/Time: March 10, 2012 8:00 PM
Location: Lee Theater
Audience: Open
Description: The Boston-based ensemble Syn-Aulois performs a wide range of twentieth century Greek art music, rembetika, and contemporary popular music. The name Syn-Aulois (pronounced “Sin-Avlis”) comes from the ancient Greek words “syn” (together) and the plural form of the ancient flute or “aulos,” and references the modern Greek word for “concert”: “synaulia,” a coming together of musical voices. The three musicians who make up the group come from a rich variety of musical backgrounds, including jazz, classical music, avant-garde, rock, and Latin music, as well as various styles of folkloric and urban Greek music, and perform on bouzouki, violin, guitar, piano, accordion, percussion, and of course the extraordinary voice of Panayota Haloulakou. Cabaret-table seating is available for this performance: $46 for 2-person table; $69 for 3-person table; $92 for 4-person table; $18 for general admission. To order tickets, contact the Touhill Box Office at 314-516-4949.
