The University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s golf team has been named as a recipient of Great Lakes Valley Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee Sportsmanship Award for the spring season.
The Tritons’ squad, along with the University of Southern Indiana’s women’s outdoor track and field and softball teams, Bellarmine University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams, University of Wisconsin–Parkside’s men’s golf team, Northern Kentucky University’s baseball team and the Bellarmine and Missouri University of Science and Technology’s men’s outdoor track and field teams were honored by their peers as best displaying “Good Sportsmanship” during the 2010 spring season.
Under the direction of seventh-year head coach James Earle, UMSL earned the program’s first-ever bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, where they finished sixth. During the year, the Tritons posted four team tournament titles and claimed a fifth-place showing in the GLVC Championships.
The SAAC Sportsmanship Award is determined by votes of the 15 GLVC member institutions’ campus SAACs. The committees select their top three choices in each sport and base their decision on their view of sportsmanship. Each team that received a first-choice vote received 3 points, second-choice received 2 points and the third-choice received 1 point. The GLVC sponsors the award in each of the league’s 17 championship sports.
