UMSL Tritons weekly roundup for Nov. 6-12

Each week, the Department of Athletics at the University of Missouri–St. Louis compiles a roundup of how the various UMSL Tritons teams have fared. Click on the headings below for an up-to-date look at each Tritons team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The UMSL women’s basketball team opened the season with a 53-50 win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Monday. The victory also marked the successful debut of first-year head coach Katie Vaughn. Junior Hazaria Washington helped the Tritons to the win by recording 12 points and 12 rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
The UMSL men’s basketball team opened the season with a pair of home victories in the Coca Cola Great Lakes Valley Conference-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge. The Tritons defeated Lake Superior State University (Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.) 91-71 on Friday before a 92-88 victory over Northwood University (Midland, Mich.) on Saturday. Senior Charlie Woods averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots per game, while shooting 68.8 percent from the floor.

VOLLEYBALL
The UMSL volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of home losses. The Tritons fell to Rockhurst University (Kansas City, Mo.) on Saturday, 3-0, before suffering a 3-1 loss to William Jewell College (Liberty, Mo.) on Sunday. UMSL ends the regular season with a 13-17 record, including a 10-8 GLVC mark and will compete in the conference tournament this weekend.
