Sophomore Hannah Perryman of the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced yesterday by the league. Quincy’s Rachel Scrum was named the Player of the Week.

Perryman, a criminology and criminal justice major, went 2-1 in the circle and added a save for the UMSL Tritons last weekend at the 8-State Classic hosted by Arkansas-Monticello. She pitched 19.2 innings to finish with a 0.36 ERA and added 28 strikeouts to her performance. She opened the season by striking out a season-high 10 batters in the complete game one-hit shutout over Fort Hays State. Against No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Central Oklahoma, Perryman retired the first nine batters she faced before suffering the loss with one earned run. In relief against Northwestern Oklahoma State, she allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings before picking up the save against Central Missouri, striking out all four batters she faced in 1.1 innings.

The Streamwood, Ill., native and reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Year, cracked UMSL’s list for career wins with 26, tying for ninth best all-time. This is Perryman’s sixth weekly honor of her career after taking home the award five times last season.

UMSL opened the weekend with a 5-1 record, its best start since the 2000 season. The Tritons return to the field March 1-2 at the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament, hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
