Angela Toole, who graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in May with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, received the National Lambda Alpha Scholarship Award. Lambda Alpha is the National Collegiate Honors Society for Anthropology.

The 22 year old from Godfrey, Ill. said she is honored to be recognized for her achievements and thrilled to receive the $5,000 scholarship. “It will be a tremendous help as I prepare for my stay in Ecuador,” said Toole, who earlier this year received a Fulbright scholarship to study primates in South America. “I am also very grateful to have such wonderful advisers who were willing to take the time to write letters of recommendation.”

One such advisor, Donna Hart, associate teaching professor of anthropology at UMSL, said she did not hesitate to nominate Toole for the award. “She has shown her academic ability whenever she presented her research at professional meetings or symposia,” Hart said. “Her selection for this award from a nationwide pool of candidates is a particularly meaningful recognition within the discipline of anthropology.”

Scholarship selection is based upon academic achievement, commitment to anthropology and the applicant’s future plans.
