Members of the University Symphonic Band at UMSL will perform at the fifth annual Warren Bellis Clarinet and Saxophone Festival on Dec. 1 at the Touhill.
Clarinet and saxophone students from schools throughout the St. Louis region will converge at the University of Missouri–St. Louis for the fifth annual Warren Bellis Clarinet and Saxophone Festival. The event will be Dec. 1 in the E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.
Students from around the area will perform from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with UMSL music faculty, University Symphonic Band and several professional musicians. The day will consist of a series of clinics and performances and culminate with a University Symphonic Band concert at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
The festival is named after clarinetist Warren Bellis, the first full-time director of bands at UMSL. This year’s featured guests include Diana Haskell, associate principal clarinet with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra; saxophonist Michael Bovenzi; and Mark Overton, saxophonist and owner of Saxquest, a saxophone shop and museum in St. Louis.
Led by Gary Brandes, director of bands at UMSL, the University Symphonic Band, will perform a concert of music composed by Jack Stamp, Alfred Reed, David Jex, David Milburn and Eugene Bozza.
The Touhill is on the North Campus at UMSL, One University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121). The festival is sponsored by the Department of Music at UMSL.
