It’s no secret that the University of Missouri–St. Louis’ student-athletes are so often strong performers both in their sports and in the classroom. Judging by several awards and honors announced just in the last few weeks, the Tritons are continuing that tradition.
In July, four members of the women’s golf team were named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, including sophomores Ares Boira, Alexa Capesius and Stefaniya Ivanova as well as junior Miranda Rohlfing. A prestigious honor with stringent academic criteria, the recognition puts them among fellow scholarly golfers throughout the country.
Boira owns a 3.73 GPA in psychology, Capesius sports a 3.95 GPA in business management, Ivanova owns a 3.77 GPA in math and economics, and Rohlfing has a 3.63 GPA in nursing. All four were also Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selections, and, on the course, they helped UMSL to its seventh straight NCAA Regional bid plus three tournament victories last year.
Meanwhile, on the volleyball court, the Tritons just garnered praise as recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award. It recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least at 3.30 cumulative team GPA. The Tritons’ team GPA for 2015-16 was 3.56.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams recently earned high marks as well. Both UMSL squads received the All-Academic Team award for 2015-16 from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, several individual players on each team were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The women’s team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.36, with seniors Natalia Carvalhais and Chandler Duchaine and freshmen Salome Bleuler and Jennifer Hauer earning individual honors. The men’s team recorded a 3.37 team GPA, with sophomore Allan Bower and freshman Fabian Frank named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
