Juliann Sebastian, dean of the College of Nursing at UMSL, won an outstanding alumni award.

Juliann Sebastian, dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, was honored with an outstanding alumni award at the 50th anniversary celebration for the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. The awards, which recognized outstanding alumni for their countless accomplishments and contributions, were given at a brunch held during UK’s homecoming weekend.

Sebastian, of Creve Coeur, Mo., said it was an honor to be recognized by her alma mater.

“It was a humbling experience to stand beside so many accomplished leaders in nursing.  The ultimate goal of higher education is to improve our world through the development of knowledge and education of our students, and inspiring and equipping students with the knowledge and skills to make a difference,” she said. “When one’s alma mater later recognizes alumni accomplishments, it is a touching moment, but more than that, it is a way of saying that faculty, staff, students and alumni really do make a difference together.”

Sebastian joined UMSL in 2006. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, and a doctoral degree in business administration from UK.
