Weekend weather wreaked havoc on the schedule for the UMSL swimming teams’ dual meet with Lindenwood, but sophomore Radoslaw Chupka won a pair of individual events, including Monday’s 400-yard individual medley, and contributed to two relay victories. The UMSL teams combined to win 12 events in the two-day meet.

Women’s Basketball
UMSL lost three Great Lakes Valley Conference road games last week, coming up just short of an upset at No. 19 Lewis on Thursday with a 70-68 setback before suffering a 73-70 loss at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday and a 62-50 loss at Maryville on Monday. Junior Shawnta Johnson made a game-tying 3-pointer with 6.4 seconds to play at Lewis, but the host Flyers netted the game-winner 3 seconds later. At UW-Parkside, UMSL saw a 13-point second-half lead evaporate with a strong third quarter by the Rangers. Junior Jordan Fletcher averaged 19.3 points and five rebounds while shooting 74 percent (20 of 27) at the free-throw line. Fletcher scored a season-high 26 points at UW-Parkside. UMSL (7-8, 2-5 GLVC) will return home Thursday and Saturday to host Quincy and Truman State, respectively.

Men’s Basketball
UMSL suffered a pair of GLVC road setbacks last weekend, falling 76-73 at Lewis before an 86-59 loss at Wisconsin-Parkside. Junior Steven Davis knocked down three 3-pointers in a span of 80 seconds at Lewis to help the Tritons pull within one after UMSL trailed by seven with 1:31 to play. Davis averaged 11 points in the two games, while senior Hunter Reine averaged 14 points and 5.5 rebounds and shot 73.7 percent from the field. UMSL (8-9, 2-5 GLVC) is home on Thursday and Saturday, hosting Quincy and Truman State, respectively.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The icy weather played havoc on the Tritons’ schedule last weekend as a home dual meet against Lindenwood scheduled for Friday night and Saturday morning didn’t begin until Saturday afternoon or conclude until Monday. The Tritons combined to win 12 events against the Lions, though the men’s team lost 228-153 and the women’s team fell 222-147. Sophomore Radoslaw Chupka contributed to four UMSL victories by winning the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday and the 400 individual medley on Monday while also racing on the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay teams over the weekend. Freshman Gabriel Jimenez joined Chupka on the 200 medley relay and also won the 100 freestyle on Saturday while contributing a 400 freestyle relay victory on Monday. On the women’s side, freshman Merel Visser won the 500 freestyle and swam the third leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team on Saturday, and freshman Agnieszka Blocka won the 100 individual medley on Monday. UMSL returns to the pool on January 28 at Saint Louis University.
