Freshman enrollment at the University of Missouri–St. Louis is up more than 10 percent over last fall. Classes began today with 1,145 freshmen – 487 of them first-time, full-time students.

“We are extremely excited by the number of students who have been attracted to UMSL because of its quality, affordability and inclusive environment,” said UMSL Provost Kristin Sobolik. “Students receive excellent educational experiences on and off campus – something unique to UMSL because of the partnerships and internships it has established throughout the metropolitan region.”

The estimated first-day total enrollment is 16,700 – approximately 6,000 of whom are high school students enrolled in UMSL dual-credit courses.

Preliminary figures on opening day are not official figures as many students continue to enroll or drop in the first few weeks. Official figures will be released in early October.
