Women’s Golf
The Tritons won the team title at the Findlay Beall Classic, firing a combined score of 598 (295-303) in the Oct. 7-8 tournament for the eighth-best 54-hole score in program history. UMSL finished three strokes better than runner-up Grand Valley State in the 15-team field. Junior Emma Thorngren and senior Maxi Roth each carded a 149 to finish in a three-way tie for second place. The Tritons are at the NCAA DII National Preview this Monday and Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Volleyball
UMSL went 3-0 at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with sweeps of Northwood and Cedarville and a four-set win over Ohio Valley. Senior Alex Miner was named to the all-tournament team, while junior Selena Nolte led the Tritons with 4.2 kills per set and a .405 hitting percentage. Freshman Megan Woll averaged 5.7 digs per set. UMSL (10-13, 3-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference) returns home this Saturday to host Maryville in conference play.
Men’s Soccer
The Tritons lost a pair of 2-0 games to Bellarmine and Southern Indiana last weekend. UMSL (5-7, 4-5) is at Illinois Springfield on Friday night before hosting Quincy on Sunday in the home finale. Prior to the Quincy contest, the Tritons will honor their 10 seniors.
Women’s Soccer
UMSL played to a scoreless draw against Bellarmine on Friday night before losing 1-0 to Southern Indiana on a late goal Sunday. Despite the loss, sophomore Amber Hayes made 11 saves. The Tritons (3-9-1, 2-7-1) play at Illinois Springfield on Friday night before hosting Quincy on Sunday in the home finale. Prior to the contest against Quincy, UMSL will honor its eight seniors.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The men had four first-place finishes at the Truman State Triangular last Saturday: the 400-yard medley relay team of Radoslaw Chupka, Austin Stevenson, Gabo Jimenez and Sergio Santisteban, Jimenez in the 50-yard freestyle, Chupka in the 200-yard backstroke and Stantisteban in the 500-yard freestyle. The women received runner-up finishes from Aga Blocka in the 50-yard freestyle and Mailin Gupta in the 200-yard backstroke. Both Tritons swim teams lost to the host Bulldogs at the meet but defeated Maryville. UMSL will next play host to Maryville and Lindenwood Belleville at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.
Men’s Golf
Freshman Joel Sylven won his first collegiate tournament, capturing medalist honors at the Midwest Regional at Fox Run, hosted by the Tritons last Monday and Tuesday. Sylven turned in a 140 (67-73), edging Lindenwood’s Carlos Abril by one stroke. As a team, UMSL earned a runner-up finish, posting a 583 (287-296). The Tritons will close out the fall portion of their schedule October 29-30 at the McDonough Cup in Orlando, Florida.
