Women’s golfer Emma Thorngren (at right) earned first-team All-American honors for the second time last week as she closed out the most decorated career in UMSL history.

University of Missouri–St. Louis women’s golfer Emma Thorngren closed out her stellar career Thursday by finishing in a tie for 42nd place in the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship.

The Women’s Golf Association named the senior from Vreta Kloster, Sweden, a first-team All-American for the second straight year. It was Thorngren’s fourth All-America nod overall, making her the second UMSL student-athlete to become a four-time All-American, joining standout softball pitcher Hannah Perryman, who was named an All-American each year from 2013-2016.

Thorngren, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a minor in economics, will leave UMSL as the women’s golf program’s most decorated player. She is the program’s only golfer to earn All-America status and was also a five-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference  selection, including the 2021 GLVC Player of the Year, as well as a five-time All-Region honoree. Thorngren also finished her career as UMSL’s all-time scoring leader and owns the top four single-season scoring averages as well as records for 18, 36, 54 and 72 holes. She captured a program-record eight individual titles during her career.

Thorngren turned in a final combined score of 236 (79-79-78) in the NCAA Division II Championship. Lynn’s Helen Kruezer earned the individual national title, finishing with a total of 6-under par 210, two strokes ahead of Indianapolis’ Pilar Echeverria.
