Men’s and Women’s Swimming
The UMSL men’s team had a busy day on Friday with some members racing Missouri S&T in the morning in Rolla, Missouri, before returning home to compete against Maryville Friday evening. The Tritons lost the head-to-head against the Miners but still had some strong showings with Jon Osa winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1 minute, 43.44 seconds, taking third in the 100-yard butterfly and joining Austin Stevenson, David Reynolds and Aiden Clark on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Ryan Clark added a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Osa had enough energy left to win the men’s 200 individual medley against the Saints among numerous other winners. On the women’s side, Cheyanne Godleski and Rebecca Bechtel were the standouts in a dominant performance that saw the men’s and women’s team beat Maryville by a combined score of 378-71. Godleski won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:09.84 and contributed to a team victory in the 200 medley relay (1:52.65). Bechtel won the women’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:57.88. Both the men’s and women’s teams are idle until Jan. 14 at Washington University in St. Louis.

Women’s Basketball
The Tritons blitzed Principia 88-29 on Saturday in Elsah, Illinois, holding the host Panthers to 17.7 percent shooting in the victory. UMSL didn’t have nearly as much trouble scoring with senior forward Alex LaPorta scoring a game-high 19 points to lead four players in double figures. Center Kiara Stewart added 18 points, Taylor Thompson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Tori Standefer chipped in 13 points. UMSL improved to 7-1 on the young season. The Tritons next meet Christian Brothers University at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 in Memphis, Tennessee in a game rescheduled from Dec. 9.
