After posting an 8-1 record in the first two weeks of the season, the University of Missouri–St. Louis softball team has climbed to No. 5 in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Poll.

The Tritons were ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll. The No. 5 ranking equals a program second-best. UMSL was ranked No. 5 in the April 16, 2014 poll before attaining the program’s highest ranking of No. 4 the following week.

West Texas A&M (10-1) remains No. 1, marking the 52nd straight week that the Lady Buffs have been atop of the poll dating back to February 26, 2014.

UMSL is one of three GLVC teams mentioned in the poll with Indianapolis checking in at No. 22 and Southern Indiana in others receiving votes.

The Tritons return to the field this weekend at the Lewis Indoor Tournament in Rosemont, Ill. Among UMSL’s five games is a Saturday contest against No. 15 ranked Wayne State (Mich.) in a rematch of last year’s NCAA DII Midwest Super Regional, in which the Warriors won two of three games to advance to the World Series.
