The UMSL Tritons baseball team started the season off at a program best 10-0 before splitting a four-game series with the defending national champion, Southern Indiana.

The UMSL Tritons baseball team started the season off at a program best 10-0 before splitting a four-game series with the defending national champion, Southern Indiana.

Baseball
The University of Missouri–St. Louis posted a 3-2 mark last weekend at home, defeating Illinois Springfield, 3-2, on Thursday in nonconference play before splitting a four-game series with NCAA DII defending national champion Southern Indiana. Junior Dominic Orlando led the UMSL Tritons on the week with six hits, including four doubles and also drew six walks, while recording three RBIs. Junior Austin Simokaitis went 1-0 on the mound with two saves in four appearances. The Tritons (11-2, 6-2 GLVC) are at Missouri S&T this Saturday and Sunday in a four-game series.

Softball
No. 4 ranked UMSL posted a 4-2 record last week, including a split with Illinois Springfield last Monday, a split at Lewis on Saturday and a sweep at Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday. Senior Katie Wood finished the week with eight hits, including three home runs, and also tallied seven RBIs and five runs, while fellow senior Hannah Wessels also collected eight hits. Senior Brittni Chapman and junior Hannah Perryman each went 2-1 in the circle. The Tritons (21-3, 6-2) continue its current 10-game roadswing this weekend with doubleheaders at Rockhurst and William Jewell on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Men’s Tennis
The No. 36 ranked Tritons saw its five match win streak snapped on Friday with a 5-4 loss at No. 45 ranked Harding. UMSL swept through doubles play, but only won one singles match with senior Tim McLarty winning at No. 3. UMSL (5-4) travels to No. 27 ranked Southern Indiana today before opening GLVC play on Friday at Truman State. The Tritons will close out their week by hosting Quincy on Saturday.

Women’s Tennis
UMSL defeated Maryville on Saturday, 7-2, in its GLVC opener. The Tritons took two of three doubles and five of six singles matches. UMSL (4-4, 1-0 GLVC) is at Southern Indiana today, at Truman State on Friday and will host Quincy and Northeastern State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Women’s Golf
UMSL placed fifth in the 26-team field at the Perry Park Spring Fling, hosted by Lewis on Saturday and Sunday. The Tritons carded rounds of 316, 305 and 315 to post a team score of 936, 43 strokes behind team champion Grand Valley State (296-298-299 – 893) and was led by Joana Yanez, who placed 12th with a score of 229 (78-72-79). UMSL will compete against Flagler in a duel on Friday in Ponte Verde, Fla.
