I am new to this organization and unique as I belong to the Computer Science department at UMSL. I will be graduating in the spring of 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree to begin my career as a software developer. I am the president of another group here at UMSL, Women C.A.N. (Computers & Networking), whose goal is to promote educating, encouraging, and empowering women in the field of Computer Science.
I am especially interested in attending my first ever Grace Hopper Celebration to meet and listen to women who are successful and thriving in their fields despite maybe being the minority in their workplaces. I look forward to learning from these speakers and hope to return with some insights to questions often asked such as: how to not feel like an imposter, how to present oneself with authority without being accused of being “bossy”, and how to inspire more women to pursue their interest in computer science careers.
