Julie Kampschroeder

Julie Kampschroeder, a 1994 graduate of the University of Missouri–St. Louis, was named Teacher of the Year for the Pattonville School District.

“I’m honored and grateful to have been chosen,” said Kampschroeder, a Kirkwood, Mo., resident. “The fact that someone took the time to nominate me, and that a panel from the district choose me to represent the district, I’m very thankful.

Kampschroeder is a college/career counselor at Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Mo. She was selected for the district honor by a committee of staff and parents after being named Pattonville High School Teacher of the Year. She will now represent the district in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program this summer.

She works with 700 juniors and seniors, most of them first-generation college students, to find the right career path for each of them.

“It’s very rewarding, to see them accepted into the school of their choice and to help them find a way to pay for it,” Kampschroeder said. “I tell them no matter what, find something you enjoy doing, something that makes you happy every day.”

Kampschroeder said she’s known she wanted to be a high school counselor since she was a junior in high school. She wanted to help students find their way and discover their future.

She earned a master’s degree in counseling education from UMSL. Prior to that, she earned an associate’s degree from East Central College in Union, Mo., and a bachelor’s degree in education and social studies from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield.

Prior to joining the Pattonville School District in 1999, she worked as a counselor, teacher and coach at St. Joseph’s Academy  in Frontenac, Mo., and as a counselor and coach at Ritenour High School in St. John, Mo.
