University of Missouri–St. Louis senior Ryan Penfield of the men’s golf team has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Golfer of the Month for March. Penfield led the UMSL Tritons during the month by posting a 74.1 scoring average.

Penfield opened the month at the St. Edward’s Invitational hosted March 7-8 at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas. He finished 22nd out of 73 players by posting a three-round total of 228 (72-81-75). His efforts assisted the Tritons to a seventh-place finish at the 14-team event.

At the Drury/Pasta House Invitational March 14-15 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., Penfield fired a 76-72–148 to take medalist honors in the field of 64 players. The Tritons also took the team title at the invitational by posting a final team score of 318-288 – 606.

Penfield concluded the month with a 25th-place finish at the Dallas Baptist Invitational held March 28-29 at the Golf Club of Dallas. He posted a three-round total of 217 (70-75-72) and helped the Tritons to an 11th-place showing in the 20-team field.

On the season, Penfield has four top-five finishes in nine events. He has placed in the top 20 in seven events and boasts a 74.4 scoring average through 20 rounds.

UMSL returns to action this Sunday-Monday at the Great Lakes Regional No. 4 in Noblesville, Ind.
