The College of Education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis will provide a pair of free math programs this summer.

The Math Inquiry Institute 2011 is designed for K-12 classroom teachers and education students. The institute will be in session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27 to July 1 at UMSL.

The national Common Core Standards for Mathematics and Missouri’s Grade Level Expectations will provide the content and pedagogical framework for the institute. The five-day conference will provide participants with inquiry-based content explorations and constructivism-based pedagogical experiences. They will have opportunities to explore a wide variety of topics appropriate to their mathematics and instructional interests.

Participants must be either presently employed as a teacher or in the process of obtaining a teaching certificate.

The Grade 1-6 Mathematics Clinic will offer mathematics assessments and targeted tutoring from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays June 20 to July 22 at UMSL. All students must be accompanied by an adult, 18 years of age or older.

Enrollment to both programs is limited. E-mail Randy Sommers at sommersr@umsl.edu for registration information or more information about either program.

MasterCard Worldwide and the Boeing Employee Community fund sponsored the programs.
