The doors opened at 10 a.m. and what looked like a trickle at first became a steady stream of job seekers at the Fall Internship and Job Fair at the University of Missouri–St. Louis Friday (Sept. 23). When it ended, 225 recruiters from 102 companies and organizations got to talk with nearly 500 potential employees. The numbers for both recruiters and job seekers increased over the same time last year.
UMSL holds an internship and job fair in the fall and spring for students and alumni in addition to a teacher job fair in the spring.
“Considering our current economic state, I think a 13 percent increase in the number of organizations participating is very positive,” said Teresa Balestreri, director of Career Services at UMSL, sponsor of the job fairs. “There was a four percent increase in the number of students and alumni interviewing.”
Balestreri said she was particularly happy with some of the new employers interested in UMSL students and alumni. Ralcorp Holdings, Kraft Foods and KDNL ABC 30 attended the job fair for the first time.
