Each week, the Department of Athletics at the University of Missouri–St. Louis compiles a roundup of how the various UMSL Tritons teams have fared. Click on the headings below for an up-to-date look at each Tritons team.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The UMSL women’s golf team won the Maryville University/Subway Invitational, held Monday-Tuesday, shooting an eight-team field best 639 (324-318). Freshman Bailey Hopper tied for second individually, while junior Shweta Galande placed fourth. Both were named to the all-tournament team for finishing in the top five.
BASEBALL
The UMSL baseball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on the road last weekend with doubleheaders at Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro) and University of Southern Indiana (Evansville). The Tritons lost both contests against the Panthers on Saturday before splitting Sunday’s twinbill against the No. 15 ranked Screaming Eagles, posting a 5-3 victory in game two. Junior Lucas Matecki finished the weekend with six hits, four RBIs and three runs scored, while batting .429. UMSL stands at 7-7 overall, including 1-3 in the GLVC.
SOFTBALL
The UMSL softball team went 1-3 last weekend with doubleheader games at William Jewell College (Liberty, Mo.) and Rockhurst University (Kansas City, Mo.). The Tritons’ lone victory came in game one at William Jewell on Saturday, 2-0, as freshmen Jena Boudreau and Katie Wood each had solo homeruns. UMSL is 13-13 overall, including 3-7 in the GLVC.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The UMSL women’s tennis team went 3-1 last week, posting wins over Lindenwood University–Belleville (Ill.) (6-3), McKendree University (Lebanon, Ill.) (8-1) and University of Southern Indiana (8-1). Sophomore Louisa Werner went 4-0 in both singles and doubles. The Tritons are 6-1 overall.
MEN’S TENNIS
The UMSL men’s tennis team went 2-1 last week, posting a 9-0 win over Lindenwood University–Belleville and a 6-3 win over Lindenwood. The lone setback was an 8-1 decision to University of Southern Indiana. Freshman Nils Muggenburg scored the lone point against the Screaming Eagles at No. 1 singles to finish 3-0 in singles play on the week. UMSL is 3-3 overall.
MEN’S GOLF
The UMSL men’s golf team recorded a fifth place finish in the 10-team Northern Kentucky University (Highland Heights) Spring Invite last weekend with a 587 (296-291). Sophomore Joe Atkisson and freshman Hunter Parrish both placed in the top 10 with Atkisson tying for seventh place and Parrish tying for 10th place. Parrish shot a team-low 67 on his final 18 holes Sunday.
