Math Placement Exam Prep

Description: This course is a refresher of the prerequisite material for students who need to take college algebra but need to review in order to place in the course and also to be more prepared for the course. The students take a test on the last day of class. This test is equivalent to the placement exam and the students will be placed in the appropriate course based on their score. Fee: $90.

Understanding a Recent Supreme Court Ruling and its Impact

Description: The United States Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling in Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, et al. acknowledged and affirmed the “ministerial exception,” a doctrine rooted in the First Amendment prohibiting courts from interfering with churches’ and other religious organizations’ decisions as to who will serve as ministers and other religious leaders. This class will review the history of the “ministerial exception,” the opinion by the Supreme Court and how the ruling may be applied in the future to employment matters at nonprofit religious organizations. Fee: $20.

5th Annual Emerson Spring to Dance Festival

Description: This annual feast of the best in the Midwest and beyond has become a Memorial Day Weekend phenomenon. The 2012 edition returns with the same winning trifecta: 30 dance companies, three unique nights, still only $10 a night. Each evening is three shows in one! Informal interactive demonstrations will be held in the Terrace Lobby by local arts organizations from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. The evening features a performance with first-come first-served seating in the intimate Lee Theater from 6 to 7 p.m. and a reserved seat performance in the Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
