Peregrine Honig’s exhibition “LACED” will be on display from Jan. 24 to March 23 at Gallery 210 at UMSL. (Drawing by Peregrine Honig)

In her first St. Louis exhibition, artist Peregrine Honig will display a series of mixed media drawings she created during an artist’s residency in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The exhibition, “LACED,” will open Jan. 24 at the University of Missouri–St. Louis’ Gallery 210. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 6:15 p.m. gallery talk. The exhibit will be on display through March 23. It’s free and open to the public.

Honig will also give a slide presentation on Feb. 4 for The Center for the Humanities at UMSL. The slideshow will be held in the Gallery 210 auditorium from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

Honig’s delicately rendered drawings and paintings address early sexual awakenings, the visual manifestation of disease and the social anxieties of her fictional characters.

Born in San Francisco, Honig attended the Kansas City (Mo.) Art Institute. At age 22, she became the youngest living artist to have work acquired for the Whitney Museum of Art’s permanent collection. She appeared on the first season of the Bravo reality series “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist.”

Her work has been shown internationally at the Gallery Akinci in Amsterdam and Gallery Arcute in Monterey, Mexico.

This exhibition is supported in part by grants from the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission and the Missouri Arts Council with additional assistance from The Center for the Humanities at UMSL.

Gallery 210 was established in 1976 at UMSL. It was named for its initial location, 210 Lucas Hall. The gallery has since grown to include three exhibition spaces and a 50-seat auditorium at its current location, adjacent to the Campus Police Building at UMSL, 1 University Blvd. in St. Louis County (63121).

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

The exhibit was selected as an “Editor’s pick” for the “Best Bets” section of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Go! magazine.
