University of Missouri–St. Louis junior guard Darian Cartharn has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office. Cartharn averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while leading the UMSL Tritons to a pair of wins last week.
In the 79-71 win at Quincy (Ill.) University on Feb. 21, Cartharn scored 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in 35 minutes of play.
Hosting the University of Illinois Springfield on Feb. 23, Cartharn netted 19 points and recorded a career-best six rebounds in the Tritons’ 82-67 victory on Saturday. The Canal Winchester, Ohio, native drained another five three-pointers, giving him three straight contests and four of the last five games where he has posted five or more treys.
In addition to averaging 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds on the week, Cartharn also shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the field, including 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range.
The honor is the first of Cartharn’s career and the second time a Tritons player has been recognized this season. Cartharn is majoring in communication at UMSL.
