UMSL sophomore Renee Verboven

UMSL sophomore Renee Verboven won her second GLVC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor this week.

University of Missouri–St. Louis sophomore Renee Verboven was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Verboven, who is majoring in civil engineering, won a match at both the No. 1 and 2 singles flights and posted two­­ wins at No. 1 doubles against Illinois Springfield and Southern Indiana, respectively. She recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Illinois Springfield’s Megan Zumbahlen at No. 1 singles during the Tritons’ cross division 9-0 win over the Prairie Stars. Verboven followed that performance at the No. 2 singles position with a victory over Southern Indiana’s Elizabeth Wilm by score 6-1, 6-4.

She also partnered with senior teammate Louisa Werner at No. 1 doubles against the Prairie Stars and scored an 8-1 win over Megan Zumbahlen and Faith Hook. The duo followed that performance with an 8-2 victory over Southern Indiana’s Wilm and Brenna Wu.

The Waalre, Netherlands, native earns her second career weekly honor, as she won the award on April 2, 2013.

UMSL (5-1) continues its current eight-match homestand on Friday by hosting Lewis. Firt serve is at 2 p.m.
